OK, to start, my wife and I are Italian, cook Italian and don't go searching for Italian places, especially when visiting Florida. We visited il Pomodoro for a 70th birthday party and what a nice surprise! The food was great, the atmosphere was nice, the service was great and portions were a great value, well prepared, great tasting (and we had left overs for lunch the next day Good wine selection. Dishes we enjoyed were 'Veal Cardinale', 'Pork Braciola' & 'Fried Calamari Arrabiatta'. Our kids enjoyed dishes from the kids menu - portions were large & tasty for the kids. Looking for good Italian in the Ft. Myers area? If so, this is your place.

Had a great meal - Penne Ala Vodka with Shrimp instead of sausage. I am on a restricted diet and the waitress was happy to make substitutions and was accommodating and friendly. Since they were packed, I thought any changes might be a problem but they make everything from scratch and it worked out fine. Very good. Everyone had leftovers as the portions were huge. I will definitely be back.

Came here with a large group of family and everyone was quite happy. Atmosphere & service were pretty good, the food was generally good despite huge portions, and the overall experience was worthwhile. I had a Grouper special which was fresh and tasted good while my wife had a small "New York Style" pizza which had some good toppings and was decent but under no circumstances ever would I call this New York Style pizza. If you're a New Yorker and you think you'll be getting pizza like home, please order something else because you'll be sorely disappointed. In general, the pizza is a little disappointing and the crust is nothing like I've ever had in New York. Overall though, the group had a couple different pastas including one with a custom request to remove the spinach and everything appeared to be cooked well and enjoyed by everyone. Prices were reasonable, the wine list wasn't anything special but had some decent choices, and I would definitely consider returning to Il Pomodoro again but be prepared to take home a doggy bag.

Visited here for my Birthday- we were a party of 7. We had SUPERB service from Nick, and all the staff was hustling and working hard, including the owner who was helping bus tables! Our food was excellent. Love that they take reservations! We had a variety of dishes, and all

Service was terrible. Our waitress was very unfriendly the entire meal and decided to lecture us when we asked about the added charge for splitting an entrée. I don't know about anyone else, but I am not interested in getting a lecture when I go out to eat. Additionally, the food was bland and soggy. Won't be going back there.

Enjoyed a great meal with perfect service. Yelp came through on our search for lunch before heading to zoomers. Saw that they are open until 2 and then closed until 4. So when we arrived at 1ish there were only a few others dining. No noise issues and server went the extra mile. Told her it was my grandsons birthday and she put a candle in his pizza. They serve garlic rolls and entrees come with soup or salad. Same menu for lunch as dinner but a few dollars cheaper. They don't skimp on portion sizes. Plenty of left overs. I got eggplant rollatini and they were huge. Came with a side of pasta. Had leftovers for dinner and still have some for another meal. Tasted my daughters four cheese pasta dish and it should be illegal to eat that much cheese in one meal. But oh soooo yummy! Grandson enjoyed his pizza. Reasonably priced considering how much left overs you will have.

Was told I did not need a reservation when I called. When we arrived 15 minutes later, they sat 6-8 groups of "regular customers" while we continue to wait patiently. Was told a 10 minute wait when we gave the hostess our name...we are at the 30 minute mark. ***Update...So, I am updating my review because the food and service once we were seated was excellent. We had lasagna, penne vodka, linguine with clams and all were top notch. The garlic rolls/knots were the bomb! Our server Nick saved this place for us....Well done!

Wonderful place! Delicious food. Very clean and neat. * * * But I feel that I really get harassed for extras. Do you want to share - $4 for an extra plate to share. How about a to go drink (of what you have been drinking) will cost you extra for the to go cup. Solution: Maybe add an extra buck or two to the meals and throw in the butter for the rolls or extra dressing for the salad without a hassle.

We were able to grab a table early right before the dinner rush. One of my friends is allergic to garlic and specifically informed the staff when we sat down. She asked for no garlic in her meal. The waitress said no problem. When the meals arrived we all started eating and about 1/4 way into the meal my friend noticed huge chunks of garlic in her dish. By then the restaurant had filled up and the waitress never came back to our table until we were ready to leave. We all had to swap meals so my friend could eat something without garlic in it. When the waitress returned we informed her of the incident and she seemed mildly concerned. She passed the blame to the kitchen staff and then gave us the bill. All in all the food tasted great, but the customer service was very poor.

This is another favorite of mine. I love the chicken piccata...the atmosphere is pleasant and they always give you enough food to take home for another meal.

Fantastic - can't wait to get back for more tomato & fresh-made mozzarella. My husband was in love with the veal ravioli and is looking forward to trying other entrees. Great service and very accomodating, especially as we didn't arrive until after 9.

I had a gift certificate and an upcoming party at my house. Joe was really helpful in helping me select what would be good for my party, based on its size and tastes. That extra care goes a long way with me -- and the food was delicious.

Was vacationing in Ft Meyers with wife and friends and was searching on Yelp for Italian restaurants in the area and found Il Pomodoro restaurant. The reviews were very good and menu and prices were attractive. What a great dinner!!! The portions were huge, each enough for 2 - 3 people and were very, very delicious. Two in our group are foodies, including me, and we were very impressed with the taste and flavor of our choices along with the freshness of the ingredients. Our great waitress, Dianne, made sure we had everything we needed. The food came out steaming hot and the garlic rolls were to die for. If we lived in this area we would frequent this gem of a restaurant. Thankfully we all had leftovers to take back home today.

Great family restaurant with friendly courteous staff. Huge portions of classic Italian food. Daily specials are always first rate. Great Bolognese sauce and house made EVERYTHING. House made sausage is exceptionally goood!!! Have been to this place couple of times for large family dinners and the staff makes you feel comfortable. Washrooms could be a lot cleaner though

My girlfriend came in town so we decided to finally try this restaurant out. WOW! We absolutely loved it. Our server was great! He was funny and on point...we were able to catch up and not be interrupted to often. Could not have picked a better place and server. I threw my eggplant leftovers in the oven and great tonight. Thanks!

We went for a weeknight dinner out and the service and food were fantastic. The bread was very hot and garlicky. The salad was nice and fresh, but simple. I had the linguine di mare and it was fantastic and too much for me to finish. My wife had the tortellini carbonara, which was also fantastic but again too much to be able to be consumed in a single sitting. They serve healthy glasses of wine at a reasonable price.

The service was outstanding - our waiter made us feel right at home. The food was just like NY/NJ! The chicken Sinatra and the chicken parm are highly recommended!! We will definitely be back to this place next time we are in the area.

Outstanding experience from the minute we entered until we departed. The food and the servers could not have been better. Had leftovers for lunch the next day and tasted just as good. We will be back and will recommend to our friends.

Went to eat on 6.5.15 - food was delicious as it always is, but the experience didn't start out well. We walked into the restaurant around 8 PM. The hostess stood there and ignored us while she was on her cell phone for about a minute. She then proceeded to look up and not say one minute please, but instead put her finger up at us and walked away... EXTREMELY RUDE!!!!! Our waitress started out friendly and attentive, but by the time we were done eating, we had to wait 20 minutes before we finally asked the BUS BOY to bring us a box for our food. He was wonderful and boxed everything up. We then waiting about 10 minutes (while there was only 5 other parties seated in the entire restaurant and maybe one of those was our waitresses) before we had to ask a waitress waiting on the table next to us for our bill!!!!! Our waitress came with the bill and plopped in on the table. No apology for her standing at the food window gabbing and taking her time. I've never had a bad experience but I'm very disappointed at what the service here is turning into. THE FOUR STAR REVIEW IS STRICTLY BECAUSE THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS!!!!!

Absolutely wonderful! The staff treats you just like family! The food was really good and took over half of it home! My only suggestion is to make a reservation. We didn't know it was a mostly reservation place being we were out-of-towners. We got a table after 30-40 minutes but was well worth the wait!! We'll be back!!!

Staying near Sanibel and decided to use Yelp to explore some Italian restaurants within a 10 minute drive. We were seated right away and had an awesome waiter. Very attentive and knew the menu well. My wife is a vegetarian and thankfully there were several options. Pasta was perfect, veggies and Sauce was fresh. Loads of wines to choose from. Awesome meal.

This restaurant is family owned, the staff amazing, and no one in Fort Myers makes better Italian food. Vegan recommendations: - Cavatelli Spinachio & Broccoli. I like to substitute the pasta for linguini. Just ask them to hold the cheese (on both the salad it comes with as well as on the pasta). The house salad dressing is amazing!. - il Pomodoro Insalata. Ask them to hold the cheese, and ask for extra marinated Roma tomatoes. Best tomatoes I've ever had.

First time here. My initial thought is the air conditioning is really loud and too much crowd noise. No liquor and no happy hour. Not good. The Cesar salad had some iceberg lettuce in it and the dressing was just plopped down in the middle, not mixed as it should be. Also, no butter with the buns. The Calamari was just ok, but very salty as was my meal. Nothing special, average at best. On the plus side the portions are huge and the service is friendly and good. For me however, it's back to my favorite Italian place next time.

We have searched all over Fort Myers and Naples to find great Italian food. THIS IS IT. Exceptional food in the variety you should expect from a a family-owned restaurant. All the great recipes are on display for you to try. Delicious sauce accompanies those dishes. Pasta is a perfect al dente. Every type of meat and fish cooked to splendor. Vegetable dishes are varied and look delicious. Large portions and fair price eliminate the need to offer discounts...but go to Groupon.com for your coupon. Friendly staff. Clean and cheerful place.

We had lunch for 30, and it was spectacular. This was for the local Mended Hearts Members. Salmon salad had perfectly cooked filet of salmon. Eggplant rollatini was well received. Chicken Parmesan was delicious. And our experience for dinner was similar. Some of us took home boxes. Portions are big! JJ Ft Myers

We went there on a Friday night for dinner. We were a party of two. We were seated right away with a nice window seat. I started with the Caprese salad. The tomatoes and cheese were fresh. It was delicious. I ordered the chicken Marsala for the main course. It too was delicious. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Most everything I've eaten there has been very good. They have good veal, large portions, and a friendly and professional wait staff. It's a little pricey but we usually split an order.

went here on a saturday evening. it was pretty busy and two parties were waiting ahead of us. the host told us that there would be a wait. when we inquired about how long his response was "if i had a crystal ball, i wouldn't work here".....um, you are a host!! that is pretty much the single function of your job, to know how long people will wait. so, moving along to dinner....the wait was not long and we were seated and greeted in a timely manner. we ordered a large il pomodoro insalata to start. it was tasty with good flavors, but for a $10 salad i think that there could have been MORE of it. we also ordered a margherita pizza and child's ravioli and meatball for our little one. i really enjoyed the pizza. the crust was really nice and the toppings were flavorful and plentiful. my dad was not a fan of the sliced garlic on the pizza (he is a margherita purist) but i thought it was good. the ravioli itself was pretty good, although i think that the sauce was bland....i hope that they don't use that sauce on items that are not for kids. all in all, the meal itself was pretty legit....but opening with such poor interaction really soured this place for me. i do not expect to go back because of that.

Today is my birthday and we just went here expecting a nice, quality meal to help celebrate the occasion. Boy, was that ever a mistake. All of the other reviews we read on here for it are just raving about how it's the best and the staff is so great - they couldn't be more far off. Our waitress seemed to have some sort of attitude, took her sweet time to even come introduce herself and take our drink order, and then was completely absent all night except for when delivering food (which was all very poorly timed, I might add). The food itself was just awful. Our appetizers (we got the Mozzarella Flats and the Mama's Meatball Appetizer) were drowning in bland marina sauce, a move no doubt made to attempt to hide the complete lack of any flavor in the actual appetizers. Next came our salads. We both ordered Caesar Salads, which I didn't previously think it was possible to ruin. They weren't properly tossed, just kind of all thrown together with a little bit of disgusting "caesar" dressing drizzled on top. And as if the food wasn't bad enough, the salads came served on clear plastic plates. Um, I didn't realize this was a $5 cafeteria...? Our entrees were only slightly better than everything else. Again, they lacked flavor and the presentation was awful. My Spaghetti Pomodoro turned out to have chestnuts or something in it, a fact that was not listed on the menu and that would have deterred me from the dish had I have known. The diced tomatoes it was covered in looked like they were freshly dumped from a can (yum!) and I think I only even managed a half a dozen bites before I gave up. My boyfriend ordered the Gnocchi, which he normally loves but also gave up on very quickly. It was smothered in some sort of mushroom sauce that the mere smell of made me gag and looked like what we will surely be seeing in our toilet bowl once this meal digests. I had hoped that maybe the beverage service would at least be alright, but it also sucked. My boyfriend had one glass of White Zinfandel and said it was the worst, cheapest wine he had ever had. Our waitress waited a good 10-20 minutes after he had finished it to bother to offer him more. I just had water and Coke and thankfully those were just fine. However, our waitress was so completely incompetent, rushed, and rude that the ONE time she actually refilled our water glasses, she practically tossed the water in, spilling it all over the place. Needless to say, we didn't bother with dessert and won't ever be returning. If you have any functioning tastebuds and appreciation of at all decent service, don't ever come here. Don't even think about. This is the single worst restaurant that I have been to thus far.

Went to Il Pomodoro for the first time in a year or so and they haven't lost a step. I had imbroglio di rigatoni which tasted like it was prepared on the spot. My wife had a spinach salad with grilled chicken which she said was great. My mother in law had chicken piccata, her favorite, and loved it. Service was timely and noise level was more than acceptable, in spite of three parties of 6 or more in the room. It would be nice if they served carafes of wine instead of by the glass or bottle, though.

I'm hesitant to write a review about this well kept secret because it's so good and then the crowds will make it tough to get e seat. If you like garlic this is the place to eat. I always feel well protected against vampires and people after a dinner here. I started of the evening with a Gorgonzola salad with baby greens, diced and marinated Roma tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, garlic and gorgonzola cheese. It was extremely delicious, especially the marinated Roma tomatoes with fresh basil. The shrimp scampi was equally as delicious. The pasta was perfectly done at al dente firmness. There were ten shrimp and enough sauce to dip the garlic rolls that were served piping hot. We were too full for dessert.

Fantastic Italian restaurant. I've been about 10 times and have never had a bad meal. It's mostly pizza and pasta, with a number of seafood pasta dishes. The portions are absolutely massive. I'd consider myself a typical eater, and I have enough left over for at least 1 or 2 people to have lunch the next day. The servers know the menu very well so asking them for recommendations is a very safe bet.

Great food. Large portions. But loud and poor service! It took us asking the hostess if there was a waiter assigned to our table after 15 minutes! The tables are close together with no sound buffers. Difficult to have a quiet dinner with conversation. The bus boy brought us our salad and the hostess gave us our check.

My favorite restaurant in Ft Myers Great food, service always spot on. They treat you like family and their dishes are served in portions that are overwhellmingly generous - especially the desserts. Excellent specials that vary daily and go fast, usual Italian standards and several with a personal twist, plus really good pizza. Veal Cardinale my personal favorite meal or Osso Bucco if it's availible. Go already!

This place is awesome!! I had spaghetti and meatballs, it was everything I expect of spaghetti and meatballs! The house made sausage with peppers and onions was outstanding, and the Caesar salad was one of the best I've ever had. Service was attentive without being intrusive. 5 stars and two enthusiastic thumbs up!

My family was interested in having Italian food, but we wanted to have a local restaurant rather than a chain. We asked the hotel concierge and she told us about this restaurant. She called and made us the reservation. By the time we arrived ( about 10 minutes drive front the Marriott Harbour Hotel) to the restaurant the table was ready. The hostess was very friendly. We sat and Nick our waiter came by, he was very friendly, I was traveling with my family which consisted of several people that did not speak English. I asked Nick to be patient with us, he was awesome. Very patient and friendly. The food was excellent. Very tasty, pasta was perfect, the pizza was great, the Italian soup was also great. Overall, a place we would totally visit the next time we are in town.

We try to look for non-chain restaurants with good food. This is definitely not the place. It reminded me of a restaurant Gordon Ramsey needed to revive in Kitchen Nightmares. Chicken Parm was swimming in water, nothing was fresh, salads overdressed, etc. Big disappointment.

We went here for lunch after driving by it a thousand times. The dining room is quite plain, but pleasant. The service for us was very good, as was the food. Apparently, the chef opens for lunch because he is there doing prep work and catering, so walk-in lunch business isn't crucial. Well worth the visit.

Had dinner there on Saturday night. Quite busy in the off season - a good sign! Awesome lamb shank and chicken on pesto pasta. Elvis (his real name) is a very attentive waiter who knows his wine and recommended a really good Malbec. He actually remembered from our first visit 7 months ago that we like that varietal. We love this place. The kitchen is very accommodating, atmosphere is classy but relaxed and the prices are realistic. Heard great things about the pizza - gotta try that next time.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
